Shin Hak-Gene

Abstract
The present study empirically confirmed effects of aging anxiety consisted of fear of losses, fear of losing physical appearance, fear of psychological concerns, and fear of old people on middle-aged Korean¡¯s ageism against the elderly. To investigate causalities of factors, we purposively collected 400 samples from 20 Dongs evenly located in Jeonju and 393 samples, survived the data screening such as missing values, outliers, normality and covariance conditions, were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, reliability, confirmatory factor analysis and structural model analysis. Followed were the selected contributions of the present study. First, middle-aged Korean¡¯s fear of losses affected fear of psychological concerns and not directly but indirectly affected fear of old people. Second, fear of physical appearance affected fear of psychological concerns and fear of old people. Third, fear of psychological concerns affected fear of old
people. Fourth, fear of old people was a predictor of ageism. The contributions suggested the dynamics and causalities of aging anxiety¡¯s factors could be a signpost of intervening plan in aging anxiety and combating strategy against ageism
